Charity Forest Harvest at Woodmill.

Apr 26, 2022

A local gem on our doorstep.

Only 100 yards from Paul Shum the butchers towards Hadley End. People must wonder what is there. It was started in 1969 when half an acre of field was left to grow wild. It has now become a lovely temperate forest garden, one of the oldest in the country demonstrating permaculture and biodiversity.

In 2017 a few people got together as Trustees to form the CIO charity Forest Harvest. The aim os to promote the idea of living sustainably. There are solar panels and a wind turbine, aquaponics in the greenhouse and soon to is hoped to have an anaerobic digester installed to use some of the produce from the composting toilet, to boil a kettle!

Courses and various workshops are run on country arts and crafts at the Woodmill workshop.

Thanks to a Community Lottery grant there is now a more accessible staircase to an upstairs demonstration area. Downstairs has always been wheelchair friendly.

Anyone wishing to promote their craft or skill with a workshop or demonstration are welcome to use the sie. Contact nick@forestharvest.co.uk

Outside Yoxall the group has helped to set up community gardens in Lichfield, Burntwood and Tutbury, so the aim now is to set up a community garden in Yoxall. Since October a small group of volunteers have met every Wednesday morning between 10.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and the results are amazing.

Any interest in joining the group should go along on Wednesday mornings or visit the group on the next open day which is Friday, 17th June between 10.00 a.m. and 19.00 p.m.
